"This place is amazing!" Sunny cried aloud, the white fae's lips turned up into a wide grin as she examined the area excitedly. It was the perfect place for the she-wolf, considering the love she had for sunlight.
Behind her, she only heard a grunt from her brother as he seemed to observe the area with slight contempt.
"Maybe for you, but not for me," he gruffly replied, the black he-wolf wincing back from the blinding sunlight that flooded onto the ground.
Sunny rolled her eyes and with light bouncy steps, made her way to the center where a pile of large rocks lay sleeping lazily. The very area seemed to beckon to Sunny and she happily gave into her childish desires and attempted to climb the rocks while her older brother just stared at her from where she had left him.
Blinking over at her brother, she rose an eye ridge at him. "Come on over here! You look like a creep just standing there."
Shadow instantly flattened his ears on his noggin and let out a short growl before swishing his tail in an ill-manner and turning to find some shade.
The sister only rolled her eyes again, and a small grin formed on her lips as she turned back to climb her way up. She felt glee as her claws scraped against the rock, as she made her way up. Really, the rocks weren't that tall at all, but it was more fun experiencing it as if it were a mountain.
When Sunny made it to the top, the she-wolf laid down in the center, curling her tail around the left side of her hindquarters as she lifted her head up high, enjoying the feeling of the sun warming her black-streaked back.
Closing her gray-rimmed blue eyes, the femme let herself relax, taking in deep, controlled breaths as she tried to become one with nature. Her black-tipped ears twitched with every minuscule sound that met them. Warm scents of all kinds wafted into her nostrils and she felt at ease.
Just as easily as relaxation has settled upon her though, grief struck her heart when she remembered her family. Sitting atop the rocks...it felt like she was sitting upon that hill.
With a small gasp, the she-wolf opened her eyes and sat upright as she felt her heart twist inside her chest. A small lump begain to form within her throat.
"Sunny, what's wrong?" Shadow called, from beneath the rocks, as the male wolf quickly stood on all fours and stared up at her.
Sunny swallowed, swallowing the lump inside her throat and the terrible memories.
"Nothing, just..." Her eyes fell onto the surface of the rock and she jumped down rather heavily than usual.
Shadow remained silent, his oddly colored eyes observing his sister, knowing what she had been remembering. The memory also remained fresh with him, but he was stronger at keeping his emotions in check. Besides, he didn't find that he really had any strong connection to his family, not like his dear sister had.
"That was the past, Sunny. It happened, you can't do anything about it," he said softly, trying to soothe his troubled sibling.
Silence spread across the air as Sunny tried to regain her composure.
"You're right...but still..." Her voice was soft, that Shadow had to strain his keen ears.
At that precise moment, the sun seemed to focus its attention on blinding Shadow, and it worked for the most part, as it caused the he-wolf to snap his head to the ground, squeezing his eyes tightly as a low growl escaped through his teeth.
"Here, just come over here in the shade. That dang sun is going to kill me," he nearly hissed out as he retreated back under the shade of one of the large rocks.
Sunny by then, had been able to push aside her bitter emotions and only giggled, earning a glare.
"Oh, fine, but hey, the sun's nice you know," she teased cheerily as she trotted over to her brother's temporary shelter.
"Yeah, for you. The shadows are my domain," he replied grumpily, his eyes hard as he sat down, his back slouched. Sunny didn't mind the negative aura that surrounded her brother and simply sat right beside him, an amused smile on her lips.
"I'm glad we're together, you know?" she said, quickly nudging her brother's shoulder with her lean snout. The only response she received was a rumble, but Sunny knew. They both knew they were lucky to have made it through together.
