On a dry, barren plain with a wind blowing over the land, sat a gray wolf. He wasn't anything special, just sitting there with his eyes closed. Nothing. Peaceful. No wolves squabbling, no pups fighting, just nothing. The sound of the wind, maybe, but Volton thought it was quite comforting.
After a while, Volton opened his eyes. They were blue, but with a red line around his pupil. Some wolves that judged each other by their eye color would of run in fear, but Volton didn't care. He was used to it.
Once again, the gray wolf closed his eyes. Anyone could tell he was deep in thought, but not what he was thinking about. They might have been curious, and walked up to him, but he would not answer. He just kept thinking.

Wolfbone Plains wasn't exactly the most ideal place for Seryna to be, but at least it was dry. That was all she really cared about right now, since the last few weeks had been all about escaping rain and thunderstorms, it was nice to be outside and not be soaking wet. Still, there was something about this place that Seryna didn't like. Perhaps it was that everything seemed so dead.. so barren.
Seryna continued to walk with her usual lofty gait, her head held slightly high as she gazed at the barren land before her. She paused, however, when she thought she spotted something in the distance. She hadn't really noticed the figure until she was a bit closer, at which point she realized it was another wolf.
With no idea why anyone would ever want to come to this dead place, Seryna decided to quietly approach the wolf. It had been a while since she talked to another wolf, anyway. She only hoped that this stranger wasn't red-eyed, because she simply did not want to deal with any red-eyed wolves right now. But, she was going to take the chance.

Volton thought he heard something. His ear tilted slightly, but his eyes did not open. Even so, he was still deep in thought. If there was somebody out there, he just hoped they didn't mind red-eyed wolves.
Volton was thinking about that day he was kicked out. He just kept replaying it over and over, wondering what had happened to the alpha to suddenly listen to Firean. He really couldn't believe it, but now accepted the truth. He would forever wander, marked as an outsider, one who never belonged, just because of his slightly red eyes.
His ears picked up some slight noise. Was this wolf coming towards him? Who were they, and what were they doing here? The WolfBone Plains was an empty one, with basically nothing in it. Not many came here, let alone towards him. He sat quietly though, and waited.

Seryna decided that either this wolf did not hear her, or he did not care. Once a bit closer to the wolf, now maybe about twenty feet from him, she could see the color of his fur. His coat was various shades of gray, much like herself, and he had lovely black tipped ears. The stranger was fairly larger than Seryna, so she hoped that he was friendly. She was worried, knowing that she wouldn't know for sure until it was too late.
But Seryna didn't let her concerns show. She still held her head high, and continued to approached this wolf with quiet paws. When she stopped she was not quite behind him, but rather off to the left a bit. Seryna lowered her head only slightly to once again examine him with her deep blue eyes, but she could mostly only see his back.
Deciding that she had been silent long enough, Seryna opened her mouth and said in her usual smooth voice, "Hello there." She wondered how he would react to her presence.. usually it was met with disgust. Messengers were, in some places, well hated. And considering she was a messenger of Corrin, that only made it worse.

Volton heard the stranger moving towards him. He wondered who it was, but could tell by the way it moved that it, was a female. He flicked his ear once, trying to pinpoint her position. He heard her slightly to the left of him, and smiled slightly. He too wondered if the wolf was friendly or not. But he dared not open his eyes, in case she saw and ran. If she had done that, Volton would of been mildly disappointed but not surprised. Never surprised. He had gotten over that a long time ago.
Volton wondered if this wolf wanted to talk to him. If she did, he might of ignored her and maybe the wolf would leave. Then again, she might not. But, for the time being he would keep his eyes closed. He would try to be friendly, at least, then come to the question. Whether she judged another wolf by their eye color. Then, Volton paused. What if this wolf was a messenger? If she was a messenger of Vesper, then the eye color probably would be ignored. But a messenger of Corrin... She would probably judge him. There was only really one way to find out, but he did not want to open his eyes.
When she spoke, Volton slightly turned his head, facing his ear to the left so he could hear her better. He didn't really need to, but it would give some indication that he was listening. Now that she had spoken, Volton definitely knew it was female. She had a smooth voice, which Volton felt was quite nice, and she didn't seem nosy, just curious. A wolf Volton might get along with. Going with that notion, Volton replied with, "Hello."

For a short moment Seryna considered whether or not she should sit, and quickly decided against it. If this stranger was not friendly, she wanted to be as ready as possible to defend herself. Of course she didn't know for sure that he would react negatively to her presence, but she knew it was possible and she learned to expect it. It was why she lived alone for a time, she didn't want to be judged or chased off anymore. It took some harsh words from a new friend for Seryna to realize that she couldn't hide from others forever.
Her ears suddenly perked when the stranger spoke. It seemed a bit rude to Seryna for him to not turn around to face her, but part of her didn't want him to. As long as he was facing away from her, she was just another wolf. That was just what she wanted to be. Or rather, that was what she wanted to be treated like. Unless of course messengers like her were praised instead of hated... then she wouldn't mind the attention. But for now, she was forced to wander in search of some sort of company that wouldn't immediately turn her away. She was bound to find someone sooner or later, because even Seryna knew that there were some good wolves out there.
Now realizing she had not yet said anything else to the stranger, Seryna thought of what else could be said. They greeted each other.. and that was usually as far as she got. There was much to talk about, either, considering they were in one of the most boring places to travel through. With that, her mind began to wander back to her reason for coming here. Seryna herself was just passing through, but what of the other wolf?
"Are you just passing through here? There isn't much too see in a place like this."

Volton waited patiently, thinking about the wolf behind him. What did she look like? Who was she? Why was she here? Volton thought about those questions, but still didn't turn around and open his eyes. He also wondered whether she was friendly or not, but then decided that she was for the time being. He hoped that she thought that he wasn't going to harm her.
Volton thought about his reply to her question. He wasn't exactly passing through, yet he didn't want to lie. He also didn't want her to think he was a bit odd. He continued to think about his answer, then realised that the silence might make her think that he was ignoring her. So he replied with, "I'm not exactly passing through here."

Seryna's expression slowly faded into a frown when the stranger still did not turn to face her. Was he angry with her for disrupting his peace? Did he know what she was? No, that was impossible. He hadn't even seen her yet, so there was no way for him to know that Seryna was a messenger. Hopefully that when he finally did turn around, if he was going to, that wouldn't matter to him. Seryna still didn't sit, since she did not yet trust this stranger enough to do so.
As the silence continued and left her question still unanswered, Seryna began to feel that she was unwelcome. She then asked herself why she approached this lone wolf, and found that she could not truly answer that question. Maybe she needed company, maybe she was just curious. Either way, it seemed to her that this wolf wasn't exactly welcoming her presence.
Finally the silence was broken and the wolf spoke again to answer her question, which by this point Seryna had not been expecting. His answer was short and gave almost no information, which once again caused Seryna to assume that this wolf was not wanting to talk to her. Still, he did answer her question, so she decided to go ahead and try something else. Maybe he would actually start talking to her.
"Oh, I see. Do you... live here, then?"

Volton hesitated when Seryna asked that question. He wasn't quite sure what to say. At that point, Volton opened his eyes but did not turn around. The tip of his tail slightly twitched. He was unsure if he could trust her, and now wondered why she was in the Wolf Bone Plains. But he'd better answer the question first. "No, I don't live here. I'm just here because it's nice and quiet, and there's no rain," Volton said. He waited patiently, his tail now moving slowly side to side.
Thinking back on it, why was she here? It was a lonely place, and if she was looking for peace he doubted that she would have started talking to him. Maybe it was to get out of the rain as he had stated? That was possible. Deciding to voice his question, he asked, "What are you doing here? Surely there must be other places not as lonely as this." He hoped he hadn't sounded rude, but without much social interaction with other wolves he didn't really know.
Volton then realized he hadn't introduced himself. How rude he must seem! Also, Volton knew, that if he didn't turn around sooner or later there might be hidden consequences. But he didn't want to reveal his eyes just yet, not realizing that he just wanted somebody to talk to who wasn't afraid of wolves with red eyes. With a silent sigh, Volton knew what he needed to say.
"I'm sorry, how rude of me. My name is Volton."

Seryna slightly relaxed when the wolf spoke again, since she had expected the silence to go on for a while. Now she knew why he was here, which wasn't very different from the reason Seryna herself was here. The constant rain bothered her, just as it bothered every other wolf. It wasn't exactly solitude she was looking for, just a place to stay dry. Still, she didn't want to be in a place with too many wolves, either. If she wanted that, she could have gone back to the Hollow.
"Well.. that's sort of the reason why I came here, too. I'm mostly just passing through, but it's nice to be outside and not have to run from thunderstorms." It actually made Seryna a bit upset to know that her goddess was half the reason she had been sleeping in dark caves for the past few months and walked miles in the pouring rain. Thankfully the storms seemed to be coming to a halt, but no one knew if they'd pick up again soon.
The next thing the wolf said reminded Seryna that she had also forgotten to introduce herself. She didn't usually get that far, which made her feel a bit better that she did this time. "Oh, that's alright. My name is Seryna... nice to meet you."

Volton waited patiently for her answer, his ear tilting slightly. He wondered now whether he really should turn around or not. It was best to do it at some point, and if she didn't like red eyes, then so be it. But Volton didn't really want to, unknowingly wanting somebody to talk to. Ever since that incident, he'd been alone. And now there was someone here, he wanted to talk.
When the female wolf replied, Volton tilted his head to the side. "Mhm. Rain and thunder seems to be the weather of choice now," Volton said. "It is rather annoying. Volton thought about any other places he knew that were out of the rain, but none came to mind. He silently sighed, hoping the rain would eventually stop and wolves could come out of their hiding places. But he wasn't sure.
Volton smiled when Seryna introduced herself. "That's a lovely name," he commented. "Seryna." He tried the name out, and smiled again. A lovely name indeed.

Finally, Seryna allowed herself to sit down. This wolf seemed friendly enough that he wasn't going to try to chase her off for any reason. Unless of course he had a special hatred for messengers, and she'd find out whether or not he did when, or if, he turned to face her. But it seemed to her that she didn't need to worry about that for the time being. The stranger seemed content to simply stay where he was. To be honest, it made Seryna wonder if he had something to hide. Maybe some hideous scar on his face, or... perhaps his eyes?
With a subtle shake of her head Seryna wiped those thoughts from her mind. If this wolf had red eyes, she couldn't possibly be having a civil conversation with him. At least, that was what she thought of red-eyed wolves. She focused her attention on their conversation again. "I agree, I much prefer nicer weather... although a good thunderstorm is refreshing every once in a while. I would just prefer not to have them every day."
The wolf's comment on her name had caught Seryna slightly off guard, but she gave a small smile."Oh, you really think so..? I mean, thank you, that is very kind of you to say. I like your name, too."

Volton's ear perked when he heard her sit down. He was surprised that Sernya trusted him enough to sit down. He continued to wonder what she looked like, even though he was still afraid to turn around. He wanted the company as long as possible, for he'd been very lonely for a long time. He hoped she wouldn't run when he did turn around, but then again he probably wouldn't. If she was a messenger of Corrin, then... It would be a very bad idea to turn around. But he didn't know.
He couldn't be sure if Seryna was a regular wolf or a messenger without asking. And he didn't want to seem rude, as this conversation had gone longer than he'd ever hoped for. Red-eyed wolves didn't usually have civil conversations with others, as others tended to run away. "You have a point," Volton said, nodding slightly. "They tend to get annoying after a while."
Volton smiled as he heard Seryna. He never thought of his name being nice, as it often reminded him of the lightning strikes. "You like my name? It's been a long time since someone's said that to me."
