At the edge of the large open space known as Sunrock Clearing, a rather large pale wolf with unusual teal markings watched from the shade of a few trees. It was simply one of his many trips to the peaceful clearing, even though they had not been so peaceful lately. Despite that, today seemed different. There we no raging storms today, not even the occasional distant thunder. It was odd, but Asher wasn't going to question it, he would simply enjoy the quiet while it lasted. There were a few clouds in the sky, however, so Asher was hoping that the gods would stay quiet today and not ruin his afternoon. Again.
As he quietly wandered over the large, warm rocks, Asher glanced around the clearing. It was strangely uninhabited, he had thought there would be more wolves out here enjoying the sunshine. Perhaps they were all with their packs, Asher knew that his own pack's territory did look rather beautiful today, as it often did, but he had decided to come here to enjoy the sun and warm rocks. He also hoped he would get a chance to chat with someone outside the Guardians, ever since the constant storms he rarely met with new wolves. Still, with the clearing looking rather empty he doubted that would happen.
After finally arriving at the base of the flat rocks, Asher carefully climbed up to the top. The sun shined down on his pelt, and even made his bright teal markings stick out even more on his pale fur. He then sat, and once again scanned the open space, letting his gaze rest upon the edge of the clearing.

At the edge of a large clearing, with a few trees scattered here and there, slept a small grey wolf in the sunlight. Just past midday, she had stopped hunting and was now sleeping with one eye open at the foot of a particulary tall tree. It was StarFires first time at this place, and she wanted to leave as fast as possible after her rest. Even so, her ears twitched at every noise. The sun was welcoming though, as she had had any for the past few days. Her grey/blueish eyes shot open as she heard the sound of paws on rocks. She glanced around at the trees, and the wide open space in front of her for any sign of life. Seeing a slight figure of a wolf somewhere up ahead, she was about to bolt but curiosity got the better of her. She padded up the clearing, her paws feeling the change of grass to rocks. Spotting a light cream colored wolf with teal markings, she decided it wasn't worth going into a coversation with a messenger wolf, having heard stories that all they ever did was talk on and on about the gods and themselves, how high and mighty they were. Turning, she began to leave for familiar territory.

Asher had closed his eyes, simply enjoying the silence of the clearing, and his mind. Silence. That was one luxury he had that many other messengers didn't. He wasn't exactly close to Tempest like some messengers were to their gods, so he didn't exactly feel his god's emotions as often as others did. At first he was upset about this, but as time went on, and with the current events, Asher was actually relieved he didn't have as much of a connection. Now he payed little attention to it, although that was hard when all everyone wanted to talk about was Corrin and Vesper, the two feuding gods. The angry gods, the careless Corrin, or the foolish Vesper. What ever another wolf's opinion on the situation, Asher had heard it. He had heard it all, and frankly he was sick of it.
He liked to think that this nice sunny day was the work of Tempest, perhaps he had actually been listening to Asher. For weeks he had been wishing for just one small break, a halt to the constant storms, even if only temporary. And now here it was, and Asher was going to enjoy every moment of it, right up until this clearing was drenched in rain yet again. Of course that could happen at any moment, the weather had quite a habit of changing drastically thanks to the gods, and he had a feeling they would be seeing the storms again soon.
Asher then slowly opened his eyes, and his ears perked when he noticed a figure approaching him. A small gray wolf.. one he certainly did not recognize. So, the clearing was not completely empty. From what he could tell, the stranger did not seem particularly excited to see him, but that did not surprise him. There was little love for messenger wolves nowadays, but that hardly bothered Asher. Still, at least this stranger wasn't acting hostile, so he decided to call out a greeting. "Hello there, miss."

Star froze, her paw slightly touching the grass. The last thing she wanted to do was get into a conversation with a messenger, but not wanting to seem rude, she replied, without turning, "Hello." Why did I have to do this? I should of bolted when I heard... She thought to herself. Now I have to talk with a good for nothing messenger wolf. She sighed to herself, and turned around to face him. She walked forward slightly, her paws getting warm from the sun heated rocks.
"I'm StarFire, but people call me Star," she said respectfully, but in her mind she was cursing him. "Maybe I should just bolt now? I'm faster then him, she wondered," but didn't notice she had said it aloud. "He won't be able to chase me into the forest." She glanced around slightly, looking for a way out but all she saw was rocks and grass, and maybe a few trees. She cursed again.

When the stranger greeted Asher without turning, she almost made it seem like he was holding her there by force. But then again, meetings with strangers usually went a lot worse, so he was thankful this wolf wasn't out to murder messengers. Not that she could kill him, anyway. That was one thing that had kept Asher alive despite being a messenger. Tempest seemed to pick wolves that represent him well when it came to strength, just as Cana picked the smart ones or Kiro picked the lucky ones.
Finally, Asher examined the wolf as she turned and properly introduced herself. StarFire, a nice name. But Asher then watched her with curiosity when Star began to talk to herself, and he gave a subtle shake of his head. Oh no. Had he just started a conversation with a crazy wolf? He certainly hoped not, but right now any company would be better than the same wolves who want to rant about the gods all day. He quietly listened, realizing she was planning her 'escape'. Interesting. They had been talking for ten seconds, and already this wolf was ready to bolt. Was it something he said?
"Nice to meet you, my name is Asher." He hoped to interrupt her plans to escape, and possibly delay her long enough to ensure he wasn't going to.. well, whatever the heck this wolf thought he was going to do. "I suppose it seems we messengers are more repulsive than I originally thought. You don't honestly believe I would chase you, do you?"

Star really did think that messenger wloves were repulsive, but she didn't say as he had stopped her mid rant. "Did I say all that aloud?" she asked in obvious shock. "You must think I'm crazy," she said, shaking her head, hoping he hadn't heard the part about her escape. Then the rest of what he said sunk in. "uhhhh..... Yes?...." she trailed off. He wasn't going to chase her? She thought, taking more care to not talk aloud. She studied his markings. "A messenger of Tempest," she said to herself. At least he wasnt a messenger of Corrine or Vesper. They might of. "Asher... Nice name." she said sarcastically, referring to his color.
StarFire sat down, realizing that this wolf was nicer then the ones in the stories. "Yes," she sighed, "I did think all of you were... A little self centered." StarFire was a little uncomfortable, but she didn't show. She set her face into the calm mask she always had. "Nice calm weather today," she said suddenly, realizing she had been very lonely.

"Yes and yes." Asher answered simply. She did seem rather crazy at the moment, but Asher had probably met crazier wolves in his lifetime. And he had better things to do on a nice day than chase some random stranger through the forest, a stranger that seemed to enjoy talking to herself and had something against messengers. But who didn't? Asher then sighed to himself, knowing he should judge this wolf. He, like many other messengers, were often hated simply because they served the gods during a difficult time.
Asher still liked to talk to other wolves about the gods, it was simply that few wolves nowadays were willing to listen, let alone even talk to him. But the next thing Star said had caught Asher's attention, and he nodded. "You seem to know your gods." He shifted his weight a bit, and continued to gaze and the wolf from atop his rock. "That's not uncommon, messengers are well hated nowadays, though the ones like me are sometimes lucky enough to be ignored."
He then gave another nod, and gazed at the sky for a moment. "Yes, it does seem calm today, for whatever the reason." He looked back to Star, then gave a smile. "It'd be a shame to have to enjoy it without any company." Now the real gentlemen that was Asher slowly came back, the one that had been hidden away after being trapped with his pack by pouring rain and thunderstorms.

StarFire was more of a loner, and didn't normally talk. She kept quiet for a moment before saying, "Ive n met messenger wolves before. One kept boasting how he was chosen, and he so happened be a messenger of Tempest." She looked up at the sky. "Its been wind and rain for the past few days," she said. "Im not used to company, I'm better off by my self." She glanced at the waning sun. "Do you want to go hunting?" she said abrutly. She wanted to see if he was a decent hunter or not. And she wanted to find out more about him. "Look," she sighed, "I don't trust you but you aren't like some of the others I've met. So, if your going to show off your strength by killing me or something, tell me now," she finished, standing up in the sun and staring at him, more particuraly the teal markings.

"Well, I fail to see how that applies to me." Asher replied, shifting his weight a bit before adding, "Unless, of course, you choose to believe that all messengers are the same boastful and annoying wolves they are perceived to be." Once again Asher's patience was rather short, or at least short for Asher. He still seemed calm like he always was, but he had not imagined this lovely day to be filled with more hatred that he'd been dealing with for far too long.
More talk about the weather, which Asher didn't mind at all. As long as they continued to steer the conversation away from messengers, he honestly didn't care what they talked about. He perked his ears a bit when the wolf spoke again, and he looked at her with a curious gaze. "Any wolf could use company once in a while." Because of her previous statement, Asher certainly did not expect her to invite him to go hunting. Being a scout hunting usually was not his job, but that didn't mean he was incapable of doing it. In fact, his strength and large build was a great help.
But what Star said next made Asher give a sigh. It angered him to a point, but he didn't let it show. It didn't take Asher long to gather his thoughts and reply. "Now I never agreed with Corrin's choice to separate the wolves like she had, and I try not to judge a wolf by their eye color. But don't you suppose that if I was some lunatic killer wolf that my eyes would be red? I would never disrespect my god by using my strength in such a repulsive way as to attack a complete stranger, and you should perhaps consider that."

Star narrowed her eyes at him. "That is true," she began slowly, "but I must say you would think differently in my point of view." she began to think. Right now, she really wanted to leave this wolf, but at the same time she wanted to learn more. She had no idea what to do, and she hated that. Suddenly sitting down, she began thinking of her life as a loner. She could never trust anyone, but few had quickly rambled some rumours before running. Not to mention the other messenger in which she had left.
Standing up once again, she looked him directly in the eye. "I suppose company is ok... But I prefer being alone and I don't like someone I can't trust," she said. "I suppose you don't want to go hunting?" she questioned. "If not-" she was suddenly cut off by the one memory.
Squeezing her eyes shut, she fell to her knees and tried thinking of other things, like the wolf before her or other happy memories. But this time it wouldn't go. Letting out a whimper of anguish, she tried in every waybut it only pushed it back a little. Then, it engulfed her.

"Perhaps." Asher simply answered, "But I have met many wolves in my lifetime and to this day I still refuse to judge a stranger." Of course it was not possible to avoid making first impressions, but Asher usually waited until he knew a wolf better before judging them. He didn't like being hated simply because of his teal markings, so why would he hate a wolf for having eyes a different color than his?
He then gave a shrug when StarFire spoke again. "You don't have to trust me. In fact, after this day we'll likely never see each other again. Depressing, isn't it?" He paused a moment, listening to her question before quickly answering. "A hunt sounds nice, actually. I would love to accompany you." Asher was then interrupted as he was about to speak again, looking down at the wolf he saw that something was clearly wrong.
"Are you alright?" He asked, giving a subtle tilt of his head as he watched Star. At one point he considered coming down from his warm rock to approach her, but she likely wouldn't appreciate that. It seemed to be getting worse, however, whatever it was, so Asher quickly made up his mind and slid down from his resting place to the wolf below. "What's got you so upset?"

StarFire didn't hear the start of what Asher said. Her mind was too busy tryig to not see the memory. Almost letting out a scream of fear and anguish, she curled into a ball, hating herself for letting it in now.
Her pants were growing louder as she struggled to contain it. Occasionally she would whimper at the memory, but she could do nothing until it was over. Why now?! She thought to herself, the part that wasn't watching. It didn't answer.
As Asher's voice broke through her thoughts, she sighed in relief as the memory floated away. She knew it would come back to haunt her eventually, but now was not the time. Now, she had to deal with the wolf who had sort of saved her. She unfurled herself, and looked up.
"I-I'm sorry," she started, unsure of what to say. I'm sorry, but I just had a very bad memory attack? She thought sarcastically. Definitely not. "It was one of those bad memories..." she trailed off. Her thoughts on Asher were becoming slightly positive, now that he had done that. "When my brother was killed..."

Asher was quite confused as to what was going on. He had never seen a wolf suddenly break down right in front of him, even when he lived in the Hollow, a place filled with wolves who hear voices in their heads. At least, some did. This just seemed completely random, and he had never considered that it could be a terrible memory that caused it. Asher thought little of his past, mostly because it was uneventful and no longer important.
Finally, StarFire seemed to be slowly coming back to him, which was a relief. He was curious to ask what had happened, but Asher remained quiet and simply let her recover from whatever it was. No doubt she would have to tell him, so he didn't mind waiting. When Star glanced up at him again, he looked at her with his calm, gray eyes that held a hint of curiosity.
After Star had began to explain, Asher nodded. "I see." He couldn't really relate, his past wasn't filled with pain and he was never really close to his siblings anyway. But, he understood that other wolves formed ties that he simply seemed unable to do. "The past has a way of leaving its scars, and some scars take a lot of time to heal. But you don't have to deal with them alone."

Star sighed when she heard that Asher understood. She didn't like to be seen doing it, but sometimes it was unadvoidable. She nodded at what Asher said, but frowned when he said she didn't have to deal with it alone. Echoing her thoughts, she asked "What exactly do you mean?" She had always delt with them, by herself, and she didn't see it changing in the future.
Standing up, she grimaced as she thought about dealing with it once again. Strangely enough, Asher seemed to remind Star about her lost brother. Before it could resurface again, she shook her head to clear her thoughts.
"Before we were interrupted by it... Would you still like to go hunting?" She asked, unaware that he had already said he would accompany her. "It helps to take my mind off things."

Asher smiled a bit at Star recovering from her memories. She did seem like a nice wolf to him, just one so used to looking out for herself. Asher knew what that was like, he did it himself for a while before his god allowed him to join a pack. Asher would admit that he was not used to allowing someone else to watch his back, but once he got used to it he found everything much easier.
Giving a nod with yet another small smile, Asher replied, "I'd love to go hunting, laying around in this clearing the whole day would be a waste of a beautiful day that we might not see again for a while." Asher certainly hoped the skies stayed clear, especially since it meant that once the storms returned he would have to leave his new friend behind. But there was something he was going to mention to her about that, when the time came.
"Let's go, before rain starts pouring down on us." Asher said with a slight wag of his tail. He began walking to the edge of the forest, then turned to see if StarFire would follow. It had been a while since he last went hunting, considering he was a scout for his pack and didn't often go hunting.
