Star looked at the wolf before her curiously. He definitely wasn't like the messenger wolves she had seen before, at all. Giving him a small smile in return, which she thought was not normal for her. A thought crossed her mind. Was Asher a lone wolf, or in a pack? She decided to ask him later.
As Asher mentioned the weather, Star glanced up at the sky and nodded. "Been raining the past few weeks, every day," she said thoughtfully. She also realized that when the rain did come again, which no doubt it would, she would have to head back home.
StarFire glanced around the clearing, before hurrying to follow Asher. She smiled to herself at the wag, but didn't mention it. "Any particular animal you like?" She asked, wondering what they were going to hunt. "And what animals can we hunt around here?"

Asher continued walking again once Star began to follow. "Mhm." Asher said with a nod, "So much bad weather makes everyone miserable, it's nice to have clear skies for once. And a few messengers are probably getting a break, too." By that Asher was mostly referring to messengers of Corrin and Vesper, who were arguing just like their gods were. Asher certainly was thankful that his god was a little more calm than the others.
"I never thought about which animals I like.." Asher replied, then thought for a moment. He usually just ate whatever his pack caught, along with rabbits he managed to find in his pack's territory. "Deer, I suppose. Which is what we'll find around here since they're pretty common." Asher then glanced to StarFire and asked, "Unless there's anything you rather look for instead?" He really didn't care what they looked for, as long as they found something to eat.

StarFire thought for a moment as she followed him. She studied his markings again. "Tempest rarely talks to you, right?" she asked, a little uncertain. She didn't want to offend him, but was merely being curious.
Star nodded at the thought of deer. Then she shook her head. "I'm not picky about food," she said. "Deer sounds fine." Her mouth watered slightly at the thought of a meal. She hadn't realized how hungry she was.

"Right." Asher answered, "Some gods are closely connected to their messengers, and speak with them all the time. The messengers of those gods even rely on that connection." Giving a small shake of his head, Asher then continued. "I just don't have that. Tempest has few messengers, and he rarely speaks with them. I don't mind it, I prefer to stay in one place instead of moving around all the time like a lot of messengers do."
Asher then gave a small laugh. "I'm not very picky either. Food is food, right?" He lifted his head slightly, sniffing the air to see if he could smell anything nearby. He then lowed his nose to the ground for a moment, before he eventually lifted his head again and continued walking. "Shouldn't take long to find them."

"Like Corrin and Vesper? Hmm," StarFire said. "I like quiet. Especially inside my head," she said. "I don't see how they have to rely on a constant stream of talk." Star glanced at him when he shook his head. "Are you in a pack?" She asked curiously.
Star then nodded. "Food is food. I like hunting though, it's very relaxing for me," she said. Star paused when he searched for a scent, then continued on following him. She nodded, then glanced around before keeping her eyes ahead.

"I like the quiet too." Asher said with a nod, "But some messengers see their god as a close friend, so they speak with them regularly. But those messengers are mostly the ones that move around all the time, receiving assignments from their gods. Much like Cana's messengers are doing now, they're traveling in order to keep the peace." Once Asher caught the scent of a deer, he slightly changed his direction.
"Yes, I am in a pack." Asher wasn't really expecting that question, but he was going to tell her sooner or later. "I've been with them a while, considering Tempest has never needed me to do anything. So, he allows me to stay with them." As he mentioned earlier Asher preferred it that way, he would much rather stay in one place instead of move around all the time.

StarFire nodded. She wondered what it was like, having a close friend. She normally moved around a lot, and understood what that was like, but a close friend was a foreign term for her. "Do you have close friends?" she asked. Star also caught the scent, and changed direction with him.
Star also wondered what a pack was like. Not having to rely on yourself, she thought. Star shook her head. She had always relied on herself, never anybody else, and that wasn't going to change. Echoing her thoughts, she asked, "What is it like in a pack?" StarFire nodded again, though not really understanding how he could like staying in one place. She shrugged it off though.

"I do have close friends. I am close with my pack, our leader is a nice wolf." He gave a quiet chuckle before adding, "Although she is somewhat stereotypical for a blue eyed wolf, always wanting to make the world a better place." Asher didn't mind that, in fact he actually appreciated it. Many wolves, including himself at times, were too busy simply looking out for themselves that they didn't take the time to help others.
"Living with a pack is much nicer than living on your own, at least in my opinion." Asher said, thinking back to when he first began to adjust to pack life. "It's nice to have someone else watch your back, once you get used to it. I mentioned that I don't like to move around, which to be honest I never had to anyway even before joining the pack. Still.. having your own territory is nice, and knowing that it's my home." He glanced to Star, somewhat curious to see what her reaction would be to what he said.

StarFire smiled. "I suppose. A better world, you say? I wonder how she would accomplish that," she said with a chuckle. She then looked a little thoughtful. "Your leader is female?"
Star then frowned. In my opinion, she thought, it is better to rely on oneself. She opened her mouth to say something, then closed it. She thought about what to say without offending him. "I... Guess a pack in nice," she said slowly. "But... Nevermind." She shook her head. "Don't worry about it."

"I wonder that too." Asher replied, "But the way our pack is.. hostile.. to red eyed wolves, I don't see a better world starting with us." His dominant didn't always see eye to eye with red eyed wolves, so they weren't welcome in his pack. He wish it wasn't so, but to be honest he wasn't even sure if blue and red eyed wolves could coexist. Asher just tended to be tolerated by both sides since he was mostly gray.
"Something on your mind?" He asked as he glanced to Star, silent for only a moment before he spoke again. "You don't have to leave, you know. You can come with me to my pack, I have no doubts that you'll be accepted. If you'd just give it a try.. I think you'd be happy." Asher then looked away and said nothing else, giving Star some time to respond.

Star nodded thoughtfully. "I can see why. Some red eyed wolves aren't very nice," she said. "While others can be very friendly. There was this one wolf-" Star abruptly cut off, not wanting to say anymore. She didnt understand why she was doing things she wouldn't normally do around other wolves, and narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
The next part caught her by surpise. She didn't know what to say at all, and there was silence for a few minutes. "I... I don't really know," she answered truthfully. "I've always been by myself, and don't really trust others," she said slowly. She hesitated, before adding, "And I always rely on myself. I'm not sure I can cope with the change."

"I agree." Asher replied, giving a nod since he himself had occasional run-ins with no-so-nice red eyed wolves. He hadn't really met any 'friendly' ones, most of them simply did want anything to do with Asher, because he was a messenger. He then noticed that StarFire suddenly cut off, so he glanced to her once again and was confused by her suspicious look. He was not quite sure what he had said to bother her, so he simply shrugged and looked away.
The silence caused Asher to glance down at the ground, wondering if what he said had offended her. When she began to speak again, his ears perked slightly and he thought about what to say for a moment. "But you trust me, right? Most of my pack is very easy to get along with. If it was this easy to open up to me.. then you'll feel like part of the pack in no time." Asher paused for a moment, before he eventually continued. "Change is a part of life, and if you can't adapt to it then you get left behind." That wasn't something anyone would expect Asher to say since it was a little harsh, but it was the truth. "Change is life. When things stop changing, it means they're dead."

StarFire sighed. She really didn't understand why she was so open with Asher. Maybe because he was different to the other messenger wolves she had met? Star just couldn't explain it, and decided to be a bit more careful around him.
Star didn't know what to say without offending him. She was silent for a few more minutes before replying. "I do trust you," she said, "But even if your pack is easy to get along with, I'll still be suspicious and secretive. That might not work well with other wolves." StarFire then frowned. She hadn't expected him to say that either, and so she was lost for words.

"You might think that you'll always be suspicious and secretive, but you'll learn to trust them. I did." Although a few years ago Asher wanted to settle down with a pack, he wasn't sure if he really would. The only friends he knew where the ones he had made at the Hollow, most of which simply ended up leaving when they were called upon by their gods. Even though he was a friendly wolf, at the time Asher was worried about finding the right pack.
"I grew up in the Hollow, the place where messengers are trained. It was my home for a very long time." Asher wasn't going to talk about his boring past, which he was certain Star wasn't interested in hearing, so he got to the point. "As a messenger of Tempest there wasn't much for me to do. So, after my training was complete I asked for permission to join a pack and began searching for one." He paused for a moment, and thought about what to say next before he continued. "I was so used to living in the Hollow, making new friends and soon seeing them leave, that I didn't really believe I could settle down with a pack. And yet, here I am."

Star shook her head. "The thing is, you don't know anything about me." She didn't mean to be offensive, but after the words left her mouth she immediately wished she hadn't said them. But she knew it was the truth, and didn't plan on telling Asher anything about herself.
Star was slightly interested in what a messenger wolf's life was like. How they grew up in the Hollow and such. But she didn't pry. Then she shook her head. "Remember how I..." Star trailed off slightly. "Eariler before. That was a memory when I was little. I..." Star frowned, then sighed. "I did something bad, and I can never forgive myself. That's why I keep having these memory flashes," she finished, unwilling to go into greater detail. "Wolves in a pack might think that I'm weird, give me strange looks because of these. And the way I was looked at in my old pack..." StarFire shivered.
